Ottawa police have identified the suspect charged in connection with the stabbing death of his mother and injuries suffered by his grandmother at a home in Barrhaven last week. On Monday, police confirmed that Party Shah, 30, has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder. The victim has been identified as 60-year-old Farnaz Farahani. Police confirmed last week she was the suspect’s mother. Shah’s grandmother, who suffered “traumatic” but non-life-threatening injuries, was not identified. He appeared in court on Friday. Officers conducted a wellness check at a home in the 500 block of Ashbourne Crescent, near the intersection of Cambrian Road and Longfields Drive, at approximately 9:45 p.m. on April 23. Police say the suspect arrived at the Hawkesbury hospital and told staff he had murdered two people. Police have classified the death as a femicide. It was the fifth homicide in Ottawa this year.
