The Cornwall Police Service (CPS) says a shooting incident on Leitch Drive that claimed the lives of two men in their eighties, and seriously injured an 80-year-old woman, is a case of homicide and suicide, and an act of intimate partner violence. Officers were dispatched to the 400-block of Leitch Drive at approximately 2:07 p.m. to respond to a reported shooting and located three individuals with injuries, all of them known to one another. “As a result of investigation, the CPS has determined that the 81-year-old resident of the Leitch Drive home shot his 80-year-old ex-partner and her 83-year-old male friend before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” police wrote. Police say the female continues to receive treatment for serious injuries, and the incident is considered to be an act of intimate partner violence. “This is a deeply tragic situation,” said Chief of Police Shawna Spowart. “Our thoughts and condolences are with the families and friends of those affected during this very difficult time.” Cornwall police say there is no risk to public safety and the investigation is ongoing.
