Pedestrian struck by pickup truck in downtown Ottawa has died: police

Ottawa police say a woman in her 20s has died after being struck by a pickup truck in downtown Ottawa Monday afternoon.

The Ottawa Paramedic Service said it responded to the intersection of Elgin Street and Laurier Avenue at 5:40 p.m. after receiving reports that a person was hit by a vehicle “at or near a crosswalk.”

The woman was transported to hospital by ambulance with “multiple” serious injuries, a paramedics spokesperson told CTV News Ottawa.

Ottawa police said in an update Tuesday morning that the woman was pronounced dead in hospital. She has not been identified.

Police said the driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and was not injured.

An investigation remains ongoing.

Ottawa police say investigators would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam or surveillance footage of this incident, but has not yet spoken to police.

The intersection of Elgin and Laurier remained closed for several hours for the investigation, but reopened around 11:30 p.m.
