Ottawa motorists have paid $7 million in fines for failing to stop for red-light cameras at intersections across the city so far this year. The City of Ottawa has 86 red-light cameras installed at intersections across the city. The city’s program manager of automated enforcement programs, Kunjan Ghimire tells CTV News Ottawa revenue from the red-light camera program totalled $7 million between January and August 2025. The red-light cameras generated $11.3 million in revenue in 2024 and $12.3 million in 2023. Statistics show 25,866 tickets were issued through the red-light camera program between January and July. The number of tickets issued in August was not available. Ottawa’s red-light cameras issued 29,579 tickets in January-July 2024, while 32,678 tickets were issued for red-light camera violations in January-July 2023. The fine for being caught running a red light by the red-light camera is $325. The ticket for running the red light is issued to the registered owner of the vehicle, regardless of who is driving the car at the time of the alleged offence. Ottawa’s busiest red-light camera is on Wellington Street in front of Library and Archives Canada. The camera on Wellington Street eastbound at Bay Street issued 1,302 tickets between January and July. The camera on King Edward Avenue northbound at St. Andrew Street issued 1,215 tickets in seven months, while the red-light camera on King Edward at Besserer Street caught 884 red-light runners.
