Ottawa police say a 32-year-old woman is facing charges for allegedly possessing and selling thousands of illegal cigarettes and cannabis products. In a news release, police say its Central District Neighbourhood Resource Team (NRT) and officers executed a search warrant at a “cannabis and nicotine retail establishment” in the 300 block of Catherine Street on Monday. Police seized a “significant amount” of illegal cannabis, tobacco, nicotine products and cash. Some of the products included: The suspect was charged under the Cannabis Control Act with selling and possessing illicit cannabis. She is also facing criminal charges for selling unpackaged and unstamped tobacco and possession of proceeds of crime. “The investigation forms part of the Ottawa Police Service’s ongoing efforts to address the illegal sale of cannabis, tobacco and nicotine products within the community,” Ottawa police said. “Illegal cannabis and tobacco operations undermine the regulated market, expose consumers to unregulated products, and may contribute to other forms of criminal activity.” Police say anyone with information regarding the sale of illicit cannabis or tobacco products is encouraged to contact the Ottawa Police Service at 613-236-1222 or Crime Stoppers.
