Ottawa police say they removed over 20 vehicles from the road and issued dozens of charges following a commercial vehicle safety blitz on Wednesday. According to a news release, officers and inspectors completed 55 inspections of commercial vehicles at Fred Barrett Arena on Leitrim Road, checking for vehicle safety and compliance. The initiative resulted in 45 charges being laid and 21 vehicles being taken off the road. Two vehicles had their licence plates removed, and another had an improper annual commercial vehicle inspection sticker removed. “Deficiencies identified during the inspections included issues related to brakes, breakaway devices, wheels and tires, directional and brake signals, suspension components, load securement, a disqualified driver and improper driver’s licence,” police wrote. Ottawa police say the initiative was undertaken in collaboration with Ontario Provincial Police and the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario.
