Ottawa police say they issued more than 50 tickets in a three-day traffic enforcement blitz in the city’s south end. According to a news release from police, the south district traffic team conducted the operation between Oct. 15 and Oct. 17 in response to concerns from residents. “Enforcement efforts focused on areas where police have received ongoing traffic complaints, with particular attention to east-west corridors where recent fatal collisions have occurred,” police said. Officers issued a total of 55 tickets and 16 court summonses during the sting. Police say tickets and summons were issued for a variety of infractions, including eight speeding offences, eight stop sign violations, one failure to stop for a pedestrian and three distracted driving offences. Police say two drivers had their licences suspended for stunt driving, five suspended drivers were removed from the roads, two drivers were found to be operating their vehicle without insurance and three vehicles were impounded. “Of particular concern, officers stopped a driver for the second time in just six weeks for driving while suspended and without insurance,” police wrote. “The driver now faces approximately $12,000 in potential fines.”
