Ottawa police arson unit investigating Centretown fire

The Ottawa Police Service Arson Unit is investigating an overnight fire at a commercial building in Centretown.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 164 Laurier Avenue West around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday where crews encountered black smoke and heavy flames inside the building.

Firefighters searched the building that houses a restaurant, bar and lounge, but no one was found inside.

The fire was under control by 3:20 a.m. No one was reported hurt.

A fire investigator was dispatched to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the blaze.

The arson unit has taken over the investigation.
