The Ottawa Police Service is appealing for witnesses, days after an alleged hostage taking in Kanata. Police spent 14 hours last Thursday attempting to negotiate with a man inside a home on Finlayson Crescent who was believed to be holding a woman hostage. At 9 p.m. that night, officers stormed into the home to rescue the woman and arrest the man, shooting him in the process, according to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU). Charges in the case have not yet been announced. The SIU is investigating the shooting of the man, as per its mandate, and said he was in stable condition. On Tuesday, Ottawa police put out a call for anyone who observed any suspicious activity in the area of Finlayson Crescent and Goward Drive between June 29 and July 2 to come forward.
