Ottawa firefighters battled a house fire for nearly two hours near Kars on Sunday, the second blaze to impact a home in the area in less than a week. The Ottawa Fire Services say in a news release that they were called to Rideau Valley Drive North near Roger Stevens Drive after 911 callers reported a television cabinet on fire inside a single-family home at approximately 11:40 a.m. Firefighters at the scene found black smoke coming from the top of the roof and from the soffits. The fire was in an area with no hydrants, forcing crews to use a shuttle system to bring water to the scene. The fire was declared under control shortly before 1:30 p.m. Ottawa paramedics say no injuries were reported. Ottawa Victim Services was dispatched to the scene to assist displaced residents. An investigation into the cause and origin of the fire continues. On Thursday, firefighters spent four hours battling a large house fire on Bravar Drive, up the road from Sunday’s blaze.
