Ottawa Community Housing (OCH) has announced it has completed the acquisition of 503 rental units from Minto, marking the largest acquisition of properties in the history of the organization. This brings 73 townhouse blocks and two apartment buildings in the South Centrepointe area into the OCH portfolio. The acquisition includes 12 one-bedroom, 122 two-bedroom, 329 three-bedroom and 40 four-bedroom homes, OCH says. Residents can remain in their homes following the acquisition and OCH says it is committed to maintaining service continuity throughout the transition. “This landmark acquisition shows what is possible when Ottawa Community Housing, a non-profit housing provider, puts tenants first and acts at scale. I am proud that OCH has completed one of Canada’s top affordable housing acquisitions and secured these homes for the long term,” said CEO Stéphane Giguère in a news release. “Protecting affordable housing is about more than preserving buildings. It’s about investing in our communities, safeguarding Canadian housing assets and ensuring future generations have access to affordable and adequate housing.” OCH says it will operate the newly acquired homes through Arriv Properties, its affordable-rental offering for low- and moderate-income households. “Arriv is part of OCH’s range of housing options and provides rental homes at average or below-average market rents,” OCH says. Ottawa Community Housing offers 15,500 units in the capital.
