Ontario Provincial Police are asking for the public’s help locating items that were stolen from a church in the Ottawa Valley in June. Police believe the theft took place between June 17 and 20 at a church on Palmer Road in Palmer Rapids, Ont., about 175 kilometres west of downtown Ottawa. Thieves made off with several brass crosses and a large, heavy statue of the Virgin Mary that would have required at least two people to transport. “The investigation has been unsuccessful so far, and investigators are now turning to local residents for assistance,” the OPP said in a news release Friday. Any who saw suspicious activity in the area, or who may have relevant doorbell or surveillance video, should contact the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and refer to incident E250817544. If you have information but want to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or report online at Renfrew County Crime Stoppers. Photos of the stolen items were not available.
