Ontario Provincial Police say a call reporting an active shooter at a business in Pembroke, Ont. was a false emergency call. Someone called police at approximately 3:20 p.m. on Thursday, reporting an active shooter at a business on Pembroke Street West, according to police. Police say officers responding to the location determined that no shooting occurred and no one was hurt. “Police have confirmed the incident to be a swatting call, similar to previous occurrences in Barry’s Bay in February 2026 and in Pembroke in May 2026,” the OPP said. “Swatting involves deliberately providing false or misleading information to emergency services to prompt a high-risk response from emergency services.” Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP at 613-732-3332. “Incidents of this nature are treated seriously, and significant police resources are deployed to ensure public safety,” police said. “Placing a false emergency call is a criminal offence, and individuals responsible may face serious charges.”
