Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating an incident involving Ottawa police after a man was diagnosed with a serious injury following his arrest on Monday afternoon. According to a statement from the SIU, Ottawa police approached a male youth wanted for several offences in the ByWard Market around 12:30 p.m. The man fled on foot and police chased him. Following an altercation with the officers, he was arrested near York Street and Beausoleil Drive. The man was diagnosed with a serious injury while in the hospital, the SIU says. The SIU urges anyone who may have witnessed the arrest, or who may have video footage of the incident, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php. The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates incidents involving police officers that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
