Motorists will need to pack their patience while driving around Ottawa this weekend, as construction and the shutdown of the O-Train Line 1 slows down the commute. Highway 417 lane reductions There will be lane closures on Highway 417 eastbound and westbound between Bank Street and the O-Train corridor this weekend. Kiewit Dufferin Midtown Partnership is continuing construction work on the concrete approach slabs on the Preston, Bronson and Percy bridges along the highway. Work will include exvacation and removals, concrete approach slabs, asphalt paving and line painting. There will be lane closures eastbound between Rochester Street and Bank Street and westbound from Rochester Street to the O-Train line from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. on Monday. Here is a look at the closures: The Hwy. 417 westbound on-ramp at Rochester Street will be closed all weekend. Motorists are encouraged to use Carling Avenue as a detour to avoid slowdowns on Highway 417. Bronson Avenue off-ramp The Highway 417 eastbound off-ramp at Bronson Avenue is now closed until November 28 for construction. The closure is part of the replacement of overpasses and operational improvements on the highway between Bronson Avenue and Kent Street. Kiewit Dufferin Midtown Partnership says the closure of the eastbound off-ramp at Bronson Avenue will allow work on retaining walls, drainage, concrete barriers, curbs, paving, noise barrier walls and landscaping in the area. O-Train There will be no service on O-Train Line 1 on Saturday and Sunday due to maintenance. OC Transpo says the O-Train will not operate between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair stations, with R1 bus service running during normal hours of operation. “During the maintenance period, nearby residents may notice noise levels increase for short periods of time at different locations as work proceeds along Line 1,” OC Transpo said in a media release. “Regular planned maintenance is necessary to ensure long-term sustainability and improvements to the service reliability of O-Train Line 1. OC Transpo and RTM continue to work collaboratively to reduce the impacts to customers and minimize disruptions wherever possible.” Colonel By Drive There is a single-lane closure on Colonel By Drive, between Clegg Street and Canal Woods Terrace, while the National Capital Commission continues its Rideau Canal Lightning System Rehabilitation project. The NCC says there will be a single-lane closure, with traffic re-routed through the adjacent open lane. The multi-use pathway is also closed in the area while crews install new lighting.
