NCC’s new recreational platform along Ottawa River near Rideau Canal to open this fall

The National Capital Commission (NCC) says a new recreational platform that will provide views of the Ottawa River and the space to launch non-motorized boats will be opening this fall.

The East Wharf Platform project aims to improve access to the shoreline of the river, with a multi-level wooden platform. The NCC says the platform will have seating options and bicycle racks, and access for kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards.

It will be located along the Ottawa River Pathway, near Rideau Canal locks 1 to 8. The project will also involve a renovated multi-use pathway, additional plants, and enhanced shoreline protection.

Construction began this summer.

The NCC says the dock will be built while the Ottawa River water levels are low to limit the impact on local ecosystems. This project involves collaboration with Parks Canada and follows a low-impact installation plan.
