The National Capital Commission (NCC) says it has confirmed a privacy breach involving its website. The breach happened on Aug. 28, the NCC said. “An unauthorized party accessed information contained in the NCC’s website database. The affected information may include names, email addresses, mailing addresses, and telephone numbers,” the NCC said in a news release on Tuesday. To date, the NCC says it has not been made aware of any misuse of the affected information but is asking individuals to be vigilant and watch for suspicious emails, messages, phone calls, or other communications seeking personal information. “The NCC has taken steps to address the incident and is reviewing its security measures and practices to help prevent similar occurrences,” it said. “The NCC regrets this incident and any concern it may cause.” The NCC says anyone seeking more information can contact the NCC’s Access to Information and Privacy Office at atip@ncc-ccn.ca. Individuals may also file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada online, or by calling 1-800-282-1376.
