Meet the Paralympians from the Ottawa area competing in Milano Cortina 2026

Seven athletes from the Ottawa and Gatineau area will be representing Canada at the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympics.

The 2026 Winter Paralympics kick off on Friday, March 6.

CTVNewsOttawa.ca introduces you to the Canadian Olympians from Ottawa, Gatineau and eastern Ontario.

Para alpine

Alexis Guimond

Guimond, a two-time bronze medalist from Gatineau, will be competing in his third paralympic games. The 26-year-old has been named co-captain of the Milano Cortina 2026 Canadian Paralympic team. In February, Guimond earned the Crystal Globe in the World Cup circuit, finishing first in the men’s Super G standings.

Guimond is competing in the LW9 classification for para alpine skiers with leg impairments.

Brian Rowland

Rowland will be making his second trip to the Paralympics, having competed for Team Canada in Beijing four years ago. He earned six top 10 finishes in his first seven races at the 2025-26 World Cup circuit.

The 39-year-old races in the sitting category and is competing the LW11 classification, which is for athletes with lower degrees of paraplegia and limited core control.

Sierra Smith

Smith, 26, is the guide for para alpine skier Kalle Eriksson in the men’s visually impaired category.

Smith and Eriksson have been skiing together since 2023 and earned silver medals in the slalom and giant slalom events in their first World Para Alpine Skiing Championships in February.

Para Nordic skiing

Emma Archibald

Hailing from Fall River, N.S., the University of Ottawa Gee-Gee will be making her Paralympics debut in Milano Cortina. The 22-year-old made her world championship debut in February, 2025 and kicked off the 2025-26 season with five top 10 finishes in six races.

Para ice hockey

Tyrone Henry

Henry, the 32-year-old para-hockey defenseman from Ottawa, is a two-time silver medalist and the Ottawa Sports Award named him male athlete of the year in 2022, 2024, and 2025.

Since 2017, Henry has helped Canada’s para hockey team to three second place and two first place finishes at the World Championships.

Anton Jacobs-Webb

Jacobs-Webb, of Gatineau, made his Olympic debut in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, helping Canada to a silver medal finish. The 25-year-old competed with Canada when they won silver in the 2025 world championships, and in 2024 when they won gold.

Wheelchair curling

Collinda Joseph

Stittsville’s Joseph helped Canada to a bronze medal finish at the 2022 Paralmypic Winter Games in Beijing. The 60-year-old curler earned a second-place finish in the 2020 world championships, as well as a third-place finish in 2025, for which she served as the team’s lead.
