The Ottawa Police Service is looking for witnesses to an assault near the Rideau Centre on Wednesday afternoon that resulted in life-threatening injuries. Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps says emergency crews were called to an area near Colonel By and Rideau Street at approximately 2:15 p.m. An adult male suffered injuries consistent with “blunt force trauma,” but no other details could be provided, Deschamps said. He was taken to hospital by ambulance in critical condition. Police tape and officers were seen in front of the pedestrian underpass connecting Rideau Street and Colonel By Drive. Ottawa police say one man is in custody and the potential involvement of other people is under investigation. Charges have not been announced, and police did not elaborate on the nature of the victim’s injuries.
