A 23-year-old man was killed in a workplace incident at a business in Ottawa’s south end. Emergency crews responded to a business in the 4000 block of Barnsdale Road at approximately 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Ottawa Police Service says the victim was trapped under heavy equipment. Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps told CTV News Ottawa the incident involved a bin on a truck. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the incident is not believed to be suspicious. “The Ottawa Police Service is supporting the Ministry of Labour’s investigation into the circumstances of the incident,” police said. “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family, friends and colleagues.” The Ministry of Labour confirmed it is investigating. “On September 9, 2026, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development was notified of a workplace incident in Ottawa. A ministry inspector is on site investigating. As the investigation is ongoing, no further details are available at this time,” a statement said.
