Kingston police say a 28-year-old resident has been charged after a search turned up a loaded handgun and fentanyl. Police said the investigation began into an individual residing at a “local accommodation establishment” earlier this month over suspicions the person had a gun. Officers searched the establishment on Oct. 15, seizing a handgun, ammunition, a prohibited weapon, and quantities of drugs, including fentanyl that police said was “destined for the purposes of trafficking.” The accused is charged with two counts of careless storage of a firearm and ammunition, one count of possession of a dangerous weapon, three counts of unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm, eight counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition while prohibited, and two counts of breach of probation. “The seizure of a loaded firearm and fentanyl underscores the serious public safety risks posed by illegal weapons and drug trafficking,” Kingston police said in a news release. “This investigation demonstrates our continued commitment to disrupting criminal activity and enhancing community safety.”
