Water rescue crews pulled a kayaker who fell into the rapids of the Ottawa River on Easter Sunday. The Ottawa Fire Services say in a news release that a 911 caller reported a kayaker in the rapids at approximately 3:07 p.m. in the 100 block of Island Park Drive near Bate Island. On arrival, crews found the person in the water about 100 feet from the shore and an Ottawa Fire Water Rescue Team was launched at the scene. Ottawa Paramedic Service superintendent Tyler Leslie tells CTV News Ottawa that they were called to Bate Island, along with Ottawa police and Gatineau firefighters. An adult male was transported to hospital in serious but stable condition with symptoms of hypothermia, he said.
