INVISTA is closing its plant in Maitland, Ont. in the coming months, leaving 100 people out of work. The company announced on Tuesday plans to discontinue production at its site, with plans to relocate Dytek A® production to its Victoria, Tx. site, “while maintaining the strength and availability of its key Texas-based HMD assets.” “We want to recognize and thank the Maitland employees, contractors, and others who have contributed to INVISTA’s success over the years,” Brook Vickery, INVISTA president and CEO, said in a statement. “This decision is not a reflection of their efforts, but rather a reality of today’s market environment.” INVISTA says the closure of the Maitland site will begin over the coming months, “with key milestones and activities phased to ensure a safe, orderly, and compliant shutdown.” Employees impacted by the closure will be eligible for severance packages, according to the company. “Our top priority now is ensuring the continued safe operation of our plants as we work through the changes necessary to implement this decision,” Vickery said. In July 2024, INVISTA announced plans to invest $23 million into the re-commissioning of hexamethylene diamine (HMD) assets at the Maitland plant. INVISTA is a global manufacturer of chemical intermediates, polymers and fibres. INVISTA is a subsidiary of Koch Industries. The company has been operating in Maitland for more than 70 years. INVISTA also has a facility in Kingston. Maitland is located eight kilometres east of Brockville and 109 kilometres south of Ottawa.
