Investigators return to scene of fatal bus-train crash

Investigators from the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) as well as the collision investigations unit of the Ottawa police returned to the scene of the fatal bus-train crash in Barrhaven Saturday to re-enact the collision and gather new information on what may have led to the crash.

The crash on Sept. 18 claimed the lives of six people, including the bus driver.

Investigators are gathering more information around the same time as the accident and under similar conditions looking for potential factors that could have affected the driver’s perception and decision-making on the day of the crash.

The TSB says data will be collected on the visibility of the train and crossing protection from the bus driver’s station, the sound and visual cues available to the bus driver approaching the crossing, the alignments and sight lines from the road, as well as any environmental factors that may have affected visibility at the time of the crash.

The full TSB investigation could take months to complete.
