Ontario Provincial Police say the human remains found on an island in the St. Lawrence River two weeks ago have been identified as a man reported missing earlier this year. Police say officers responded to a call for a person at approximately 10 a.m. Monday, May 19, reporting they found remains on the island. “The identity of the deceased has not been determined, and it is not known how long the individual has been deceased,” police said. “The OPP does not believe there is any indication of a risk to public safety.” On Monday, the OPP said the body was a 68-year-old man reported missing. “The Leeds County OPP Crime Unit conducted a detailed investigation, and it has been determined that there was no foul play,” the OPP said. The name of the man will not be released. Gananoque is located between Kingston and Brockville along the St. Lawrence River.
