Thousands of homes in Ottawa will lose their door-to-door mail delivery next summer as Canada Post switches to community mailbox delivery. The Crown corporation announced last April the first addresses in Ottawa and across Canada that will be transitioned from door-to-door mail delivery to community boxes beginning in late 2026 and continuing into 2027. The first areas to switch to community mailboxes in Ottawa are postal codes beginning with K1B, K1G, K1H, K1J and K1K. On Thursday, Canada Post launched an online tool that allows customers with door-to-door delivery to see when their area is scheduled for conversion to a community mailbox. According to the online tool, the Ottawa postal codes K1B, K1G, K1H, K1J and K1K are scheduled to change to community mailboxes in July 2027. Residents in the postal codes K1E, K1C and K1W are scheduled to covert to community mailboxes in August 2027. The neighbourhoods include Blackburn Hamlet, Pineview, Riverview Park, Overbrook, Elmvale, Hunt Club Park, Alta Vista, Convent Glen, Chapel Hill, Beacon Hill, and Queenswood Heights. Other neighbourhoods in downtown Ottawa are scheduled to switch from door-to-door mail delivery in 2030, according to the Canada Post website. Residents will receive advance notices to inform them of the move to community mailboxes. Ottawa is one of 13 areas chosen for the first round of this initiative. Different areas will be moved to community mailboxes each year, Canada Post says. With files from CTV News Ottawa’s Ted Raymond and Adam Beauchemin
