Ottawa motorists will receive break from the highest gas prices in two years, but the relief may be temporary. Gas prices were sitting at $1.78 or $1.79 a litre in Ottawa on Tuesday, up from $1.29 a litre on Feb. 28. Canadians for Affordable Energy president Dan McTeague said gas prices were expected to drop 13 cents a litre on Wednesday. “Prices are expected to go back up on Thursday,” McTeague said on X. “Fill up Wednesday and save, as markets aren’t sure of (U.S. President Donald) Trump’s assurances of negotiations with Iran.” Trump said on Monday that the United States was in talks with Iran to end the war. McTeague says diesel prices are expected to drop 20 cents a litre on Wednesday. In a post on social media Tuesday evening, McTeague said gas prices will increase seven cents a litre on Thursday.
