Canada Day weekend public fireworks

Friday, June 27

The Ottawa Titans are hosting a pre-Canada Day party, with post-game fireworks Friday night. Game time is 7 p.m.

Sunday, June 29

The Ottawa Redblacks host Toronto for the Canada Day game Sunday night at TD Place. There will be fireworks after the game.

Canada Day fireworks displays in Ottawa on July 1

• LeBreton Flats Park: 10 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.
• Canada Day in Barrhaven: 10 p.m. at Clarke Fields
• Canada Day in Kanata: 10 p.m. at Walter Baker Park
• Canada Day in Stittsville: 9:45 p.m. at Sacred Heart High School and Cardelrec Recreation Complex

Personal fireworks use in City of Ottawa

The City of Ottawa says if you are planning to light fireworks for Canada Day, fireworks are only permitted on June 30, July 1 and July 2.

Age requirements

Under the City of Ottawa’s Fireworks Bylaw, fireworks displays must be directly supervised by an adult, 18 years and older.

Locations

You are only allowed to discharge fireworks on private property, with permission from the property owner.

“Even on private properties, fireworks cannot be discharged if it poses danger to other individuals and properties,” the city said on its website.

“This includes any property nearby, such as other homes, apartments, roadways, sidewalks and public spaces.”

Prohibited locations

Residents are not allowed to discharge fireworks in city parks and on sports fields.

“Discharging fireworks is not allowed on City property – which includes all parks, sports fields and beaches,” the city said.

“The four local school boards – Ottawa Catholic School Board, Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, Le Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est and Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario – do not allow discharging fireworks on all school premises, including all track and sports field areas.”
