Canada’s 159th birthday party will include fireworks displays across Ottawa. The biggest fireworks display will be at LeBreton Flats on Wednesday as part of the national Canada Day celebrations, while there will be displays at community celebrations across Ottawa. CTVNewsottawa.ca looks at what you need to know about fireworks displays in Ottawa on July 1. LeBreton Flats Note: The Canada Day Evening Show has been cancelled due to the weather. The Canada Day celebrations at LeBreton Flats will wrap up with fireworks at 10 p.m. on Wednesday. Canadian Heritage says the fireworks will be set off near LeBreton Flats Park in Ottawa. “For an exceptional view, head to the park or nearby streets, which will be closed to traffic that day,” the department said. Canada Day Barrhaven Note: Organizers say the Canada Day in Barrhaven site has been shut down for the evening. The fireworks will be rescheduled for another date. The Canada Day in Barrhaven celebrations will wrap up with fireworks at 10 p.m. The fireworks will be at Clarke Fields Park on Houlahan Street. Canada Day in Kanata Note: The Canada Day in Kanata events Wednesday evening, including the fireworks, have been postponed due to the weather. Celebrate Canada Day with fireworks at Walter Baker Park. The fireworks are scheduled for 10 p.m. Canada Day in Stittsville Note: The Stittsville Village Association says the fireworks have been cancelled due to the weather. Coun. Glen Gower says there will be fireworks as part of the Stittsville Village Association’s Canada Day celebrations. The fireworks will be at Sacred Heart High School. Riverside South Note: The Riverside South Community Association says the fireworks display has been cancelled on Wednesday due to the storm. The Canada Day celebrations in Claudette Cain Park will include fireworks. Officials say the fireworks will begin at dusk (approximately 10 p.m.). Vars The Vars Community Association will celebrate Canada Day with a fireworks display. The fireworks are scheduled for dusk at Alcide Trudeau Park. Canada Day in the east end Note: The Canada Day fireworks have been postponed due to the weather. A new date will be scheduled. Celebrate Canada Day at the Richcraft Sensplex on Shefford Road in the east end. It’s an evening of music, community spirit and a spectacular Canada Day fireworks display. The fireworks will begin at 9:15 p.m. Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Ottawa Note: As of 7:36 p.m. Wednesday, the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Ottawa says its fireworks display is proceeding. The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Ottawa is hosting a fireworks display on Canada Day. The fireworks display is scheduled for 10 p.m. Drone show in Manotick Note: The drone show has been cancelled due to the weather. The Manotick Village and Community Association invites you to celebrate Canada Day in Manotick. There will be a drone and music show at 9:30 p.m. at Centennial Park at the Manotick Community Centre. Fireworks displays at home The City of Ottawa is reminding residents about the regulations around Canada Day fireworks for celebrations with family or friends. Under the city’s Fireworks Bylaw, fireworks can only be discharged on Canada Day, the day before Canada Day (Tuesday) and the day after Canada Day (Thursday). The city says fireworks displays must take place on private property. “Even on private properties, fireworks cannot be discharged if it poses a danger to other individuals and properties,” the city said on its website. “This includes any property nearby, such as other homes, apartments, roadways, sidewalks and public spaces.” You are not allowed to set off fireworks on City of Ottawa property, including all parks, sports fields and beaches. Fireworks are also prohibited on school properties and sports fields at the four Ottawa school boards.
