Ottawa residents will want to fill up the gas tank today, before prices at the pumps increase again tomorrow. Gas prices dropped 13 cents a litre at Ottawa gas stations on Wednesday. The price of gasoline was selling for around $1.66 a litre. Canadians for Affordable Energy President Dan McTeague says gas prices are expected to rise 7 cents a litre on Thursday, with prices jumping back to 173.9 cents a litre. Prices have increased more than 35 cents a litre since February 28 as oil prices rise due to the war in the Middle East. McTeague warns diesel prices will also increase 10 cents on Thursday. The Canadian Association of Professional Employees is calling on the federal government to follow the advice of the International Energy Agency and allow public servants to work from home to ease demand on fuel. Last week, the International Energy Agency (IEA) announced several recommendations to reduce the demand for oil and “alleviate the economic impacts on consumers” due to the disruptions to oil markets stemming from the war in the Middle East.
