Ottawa motorists are now paying more than $1.80 a litre to fill up the gas tank, and prices could go higher in the weeks ahead. Prices jumped five cents a litre Wednesday morning to $1.82 or $1.83 a litre at stations in Ottawa. The increase comes after prices jumped 11 cents a litre at Ottawa gas stations last weekend. Canadians for Affordable Energy president Dan McTeague says prices at 182.9 a litre in Ontario and $1.98 a litre in Montreal are the highest since July 2022. McTeague says prices will jump another two cents a litre on Thursday to around $1.85 or $1.86 a litre. Motorists have seen prices jump more than 45 cents a litre in Ottawa since February 28 as oil prices rise due to the war in the Middle East. McTeague told CP24 on March 19 that prices will likely increase 10 cents a litre in mid-April when refineries switch from winter to summer-grade blends.
