Ottawa Fire Services says four pets did not survive an overnight fire in Vanier. Firefighters were called to a home on Dieppe Street at around 2:33 a.m. Tuesday on reports of smoke and flames. All four residents of the home were able to escape unharmed with one of their dogs, according to Ottawa Fire Services public information officer Nick DeFazio, but three cats and another dog were still trapped inside. The missing animals were located unconscious. Despite resuscitation efforts by firefighters, all four died at the scene. Meanwhile, the fire was located in the basement and extinguished. It was declared under control by 3:11 a.m.; however, due to the damage, three adults and one child have been displaced. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
