Former pro golfer from Kingston, Ont., Matt McQuillan, dies at 45

Matt McQuillan, a former professional golfer from Kingston, Ont., has died, the PGA Tour announced.

The PGA announced McQuillan’s death on Friday. He was 45.

McQuillan earned his PGA Tour card in 2010 and competed in the 2011 season, most notably in the 2011 John Deere Classic, where he tied for third.

Prior to his PGA career, McQuillan won the Telus Edmonton Open in 2005 and the 2008 Cataraqui Pro-Am.

The PGA says McQuillan taught in Kingston in recent years.

The Garrison Golf Club in Kingston posted on social media to offer its condolences.

“Matt was an accomplished professional golfer who competed on the PGA Tour, but the tremendous outpouring of support and memories shared by friends, fellow golfers, and members of the golf community speaks to something even greater and to the kind of person he was and the impact he had on those around him,” a post on Facebook said.

There was no word on McQuillan’s cause of death.
