Two former Ottawa city councillors are eyeing political comebacks in this fall’s municipal election. Mathieu Fleury, who served three terms as councillor in Rideau-Vanier, has registered to run for the position of school board trustee in Zone 10 for the Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario. Fleury did not seek re-election in the 2022 City of Ottawa municipal election. Samtou Tchamdja is also running for trustee in Zone 10. In Cornwall, Jody Mitic has registered to run for councillor. In a video on Instagram, Mitic said he recently moved to Cornwall. Mitic served as councillor in Innes ward for one term after winning the 2014 election. Mitic is a Canadian veteran of the Afghan war who lost both his feet after stepping on a landmine in 2007. There are 21 candidates registered to run for councillor in Cornwall. Eight candidates will be elected to Cornwall council.
