One of the six co-working spaces for federal public servants in the national capital region is set to close this spring, just weeks before federal employees will be required to spend more time in the office. The federal government currently runs 13 “GCcoworking” locations across Canada, including four in Ottawa and two in Gatineau. The coworking sites are open to federal employees in participating Government of Canada organizations, with each location IT-enabled and offering individual workstations and collaborative spaces. Public Services and Procurement Canada confirms to CTV News Ottawa that its GCcoworking location at 480 de la Cité Boulevard in Gatineau will close in June. “The lease for the Gatineau GCcoworking site at 480 boulevard de la Cité is ending and cannot be renewed,” a spokesperson for Public Services and Procurement Canada said in an email. “As a result, the site will close on June 12, 2026. There is also a larger coworking site that remains open at 140 Place du Portage.” The government says it has extended the GCcoworking initiative at the four locations in Ottawa and at Place du Portage in Gatineau for an additional six months beyond March 31. The four GCcoworking locations in Ottawa are: “As of now, no decisions have been made regarding operations beyond the extension period,” the government said. “PSPC continues to keep users and our client organizations informed as more information becomes available.” The Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat has issued a new directive on in-office work. As of May 4, executives will be required to work onsite five days per week. All other federal employees in the core public service will need to be in the office for a minimum of four days per week, as of July 6.
