Driver stopped going 112 km/h over speed limit on Ottawa road

Eleven drivers are facing stunt driving charges after a weekend blitz targeting speeding on Ottawa’s roads, including one driver going 112 kilometres an hour over the speed limit.

Officers with the Ontario Provincial Police and Ottawa Police Service conducted a two-day initiative targeting speeders and dangerous driving behaviours on Friday and Saturday night. The OPP Aviation Services also took part in the blitz.

Thirty-five speeding charges were issued during the blitz, two tickets were issued to drivers for not having insurance and five people were charged while driving under suspension.

Police say one driver was observed going 172 km/h in a 60 km/h zone this weekend.

Two drivers were observed going 186 km/h on an area highway, while another driver was caught going 172 km/h on the highway.

“The OPP remains committed to working with policing partners, including the Ottawa Police Service, to improve road safety and address dangerous driving behaviours,” OPP said in a media release.

“Drivers who choose to engage in risky driving behaviours can expect enforcement action, vehicle impoundment, licence suspensions, and significant fines.”
