Another high-rise is being proposed for Ottawa’s Little Italy neighborhood. The City of Ottawa says it has received official plan and zoning amendment applications for 116 Beech St., near Champagne Avenue South. The proposal calls for a 25-storey, mixed-use building with 392 residential units, 30 visitor and 113 resident parking spaces underground, 200 bicycle parking spaces, and 500 sq. m. of parkland. “The proposed redevelopment consists of a high-rise, mixed-use building consisting of a 25-storey tower with a six-storey podium,” a city document says. The site is currently a 3.5-storey apartment building with a surface-level parking lot. Little Italy is home to Ottawa’s tallest building, the 45-storey Claridge Icon, as well as the 30-storey Soho Italia. An even taller building is being proposed closer to Dow’s Lake near the corner of Carling Avenue and Preston Street.
