City of Ottawa puts Stittsville land for sale to build new health hub

Eight acres of City of Ottawa land is being made available to build a new health hub to attract a team of physicians to Stittsville.

The city has issued a request for expression of interest to develop a health hub on municipal land at 1655 Maple Grove Road, between Huntmar Drive and Terry Fox Drive.

“We’re taking another step to improve access to primary care in Ottawa,” Mayor Mark Sutcliffe said in a statement on X.

“The City has listed a property for sale to support the development of a new health hub. This is part of our Primary Care Strategy to bring more family doctors and nurse practitioners closer to where people live.”

According to the city, the existing works yard and stormwater management facility on the property will not be part of the land for the new health hub.

The request for expressions of interest is the first part of the two-stage process, which will be followed by a request for proposals.

“The goal of the City of Ottawa is to see a new privately developed health hub on the subject lands,” the city said on its website.

“While a health hub is not a defined term within the City of Ottawa zoning bylaw, the intent is to create a new facility that supports a primary care team. The team would emphasize attracting full-time primary care team physicians with other supportive medical professionals.”

Council approved a 10-point strategy last fall to recruit and retain primary care providers to the City of Ottawa. One of the action points was to explore opportunities for the city to contribute land or space for new non-profit medical centres.
