You may soon be able to pick up chicken, instead of beer, at a store at College Square in Ottawa’s west end. An application has been filed with the City of Ottawa to build a single-storey fast food restaurant at 1984 Baseline Road, replacing the existing Beer Store location at the northwest corner of the College Square shopping centre. The plans show the fast-food restaurant will be a Chick-fil-A location. “The purpose of the application is to develop the subject lands with a single-storey fast food restaurant with a double-lane drive-through, seven parking spaces including two barrier-free, six bicycle parking spaces, and a combination of hard and soft landscaping, outdoor furniture, lighting, and an outdoor patio,” the application summary says. The draft conceptional design concepts, by Petroff Partnership Architects, show a Chick-fil-A will be built where the Beer Store is currently located. Coun. Laine Johnson says the site plan application is for the existing Beer Store location at College Square. Johnson is inviting residents to provide feedback on the plan until April 1. College Square currently is home to several restaurants, including a Kettlemans Bagel and Popeyes Chicken. The U.S.-based fast-food chain currently has two Chick-fil-A locations in Ottawa - at Tanger Outlets in Kanata and at the Rideau Centre. Chick-fil-A restaurants are always closed on Sunday. The company says Chick-fil-A restaurants are closed on Sundays to “give team members the opportunity to rest, enjoy time with their families and worship if they choose.” The Beer Store says the location at College Square remains open to customers. “We remain committed to this location and to serving our customers and community,” the retailer said in a statement to CTV News Ottawa on Tuesday. “At this time, no decisions have been made regarding any changes to our retail network in the Ottawa area. As tenants, we do not control the property owner’s decisions regarding development applications, nor would it be appropriate for us to comment on them.”
