Police in Brockville, Ont. are investigating a break-and-enter at a local discount store in the 1000 Islands Plaza that involves broken pipes, stolen copper, and evidence someone had been sleeping inside. Officers were called to the Treasure Hunt store on Parkedale Avenue at around 11 p.m. Sunday after an alarm sounded. They discovered the leaking pipes and, with the help of City of Brockville staff, were able to shut off the water. The investigation revealed someone had cut the pipes, police said. Police also said they discovered evidence that people had at one point been sleeping in the store and that copper was being stolen from the building. Some copper was allegedly set up in an area that appeared as if it was meant to be picked up later. “Items were seized for identification purposes, and the investigation is ongoing,” Brockville police said in a news release. “If anyone has information they wish to provide to police, you can do so by calling the Brockville Police Service at 613-342-0127 or alternatively through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).”
