Being late for a court date 100 kilometres away will not get you out of a speeding ticket, Ottawa police say. On Thursday, Ottawa police stopped a driver on the Ontario side of the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge, who was allegedly going 111 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The driver was charged with stunt driving. “Nothing ruins a beautiful day like a stunt driving charge; worse still would be if you were ‘running late for a Traffic Court date in L’Orignal,’” the Ottawa Police Service Traffic Escort & Enforcement Unit said on X. A stunt driving charge comes with an automatic 30-day driver’s license suspension and a 14-day vehicle impound, as well as a new court date.
