Alt Hotel officially opens at Ottawa Airport

A new hotel attached to the Ottawa Airport has officially opened.

The Alt Hotel Ottawa Airport officially opened Thursday. The 178-room hotel has two meeting rooms, a 24-hour gym, and the Sosta! Pizzeria restaurant.

The hotel connects to the airport via a covered walkway.

“I think it’s a game changer for our passengers and for flight crews, who are steps away from the terminal,” said Ottawa Airport VP of Communications Krista Kealey. “It’s going to be especially great for passengers who are leaving on those really early morning flights, to be able to have a comfortable sleep and you’re steps away from check-in. And so, I think it’s a wonderful amenity that the community has been looking for.”

This is Germain Hotels’ 20th property in Canada, and its third in Ottawa, alongside Le Germain Hotel on Daly Avenue and the Alt Hotel Downtown on Slater Street.

“Opening our 20th hotel is a significant milestone, but more importantly, it captures the very essence of Alt Hotels: a welcoming, convenient stop in a great location, offering the services travellers really want,” said Germain Hotels co-president Hugo Germain in a news release. “With direct airport access, every aspect of the hotel has been designed to help guests enjoy an effortless stay. When you travel, every minute counts, and that idea really guided the design of this hotel.”

Susan Margles, president and CEO of the Ottawa International Airport, says the hotel will make a meaningful difference to the airport experience.

“We are proud to welcome Alt Hotel Ottawa Airport to the heart of YOW and especially pleased that a Canadian company continues to invest in the nation’s capital as part of its growth,” Margles said.

The hotel was not without controversy. Germain Hotels initially applied to the city for a $13 million community improvement grant in 2023 to support construction, but city council voted down the plan. Despite this, the hotel went ahead. Bookings became available on March 1.
