The Ottawa Police Service says a driver has been charged after crashing into Mooney’s Bay early Friday morning. The crash happened at around 5:40 a.m. at the corner of Walkley Road and Riverside Drive. A vehicle being driven westbound on Walkley crashed into a pole while making a turn onto Riverside, and then kept going into the Rideau River. Bystanders rescued the driver and passenger from the water in the immediate aftermath of the crash. The vehicle was later removed from the river. In an email to CTV News Ottawa, police said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The driver is charged with failure or refusal to comply with a demand under the Criminal Code and the investigation is ongoing, police said. Ottawa paramedics said neither the driver nor the passenger required hospitalization after the crash.
