An 86-year-old man is facing a charge of manslaughter in connection with the death of his wife in Cornwall, Ont. last spring. Officers with the Cornwall Police Service responded to a sudden death call involving an 83-year-old woman, according to police. The woman was pronounced dead. “It is alleged on April 12, 2026, the man unlawfully caused his spouse’s death, committing manslaughter,” police said in a media release on Thursday. “He is also alleged to have failed, without lawful excuse, to provide her with the necessaries of life while she was in necessitous circumstances, thereby endangering her life and permanently harming her health.” Police say following a “lengthy investigation, police developed reasonable and probable grounds for the man’s death.” He was charged on Wednesday. Police say he was released from custody and will appear in court again on Nov. 3.
