A driver is facing a $490 fine for careless driving after a truck hauling an RV trailer flipped in the eastbound lanes on Highway 417, and a fridge was ejected from the trailer into oncoming traffic. Emergency crews responded to a reported two-vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes near Lees Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Monday. Ontario Provincial Police Const. Michael Fathi tells CTV News Ottawa a pick-up truck hauling a trailer flipped onto its side after it tried to pass slower-moving traffic. “The driver lost control and both truck and trailer flipped,” Fathi said. “The fridge from inside the trailer went over the centre median and into oncoming traffic. It was not struck by any westbound moving vehicles.” Fathi said a second vehicle was involved in the collision, but he didn’t have any information on how the vehicle got involved in the crash. Video at the scene from CTV News Ottawa’s Shaun Vardon showed an RV trailer on its side blocking two lanes of traffic. Video posted on social media showed debris in the westbound lanes of the highway. Paramedics assessed two people at the scene, but no one was transported to hospital. Fathi said the driver of the truck was charged with Careless Driving, which includes a $490 fine and six demerit points. The eastbound lanes of Hwy. 417 reopened to traffic just after midnight.
