Two G2 drivers are facing stunt driving charges after being observed racing in Barrhaven last weekend, according to police. The Ottawa Police Service’s traffic enforcement officers conducted a ‘Residents Matter’ traffic enforcement blitz last Friday and Saturday nights, focusing on speeding, street racing and aggressive driving. Police issued 11 speeding tickets, including four stunt driving charges, during the two-night blitz, along with a number of Provincial Offences Act charges related to “driving behaviour, vehicle equipment and documentation.” Police say an 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old man were observed racing on Strandherd Drive at Beatrice Drive, travelling 127 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. Police say the two drivers with G2 licences were also charged with racing a motor vehicle. A G2 licence is Level Two of the graduated licensing system, and drivers are subject to certain conditions. Officers stopped a 26-year-old man on Highway 417 eastbound at Holly Acres Road travelling 163 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. Police say a 23-year-old man with a G2 licence was caught speeding 117 km/h on Strandherd Drive. All four drivers charged with stunt driving also received a 30-day licence suspension and the vehicles were impounded for 14 days. “They face fines of $2000 to $10,000, a further one – to three – year driver’s licence suspension, and a possible six months in jail, upon conviction,” police said.
