Firefighters in Gatineau, Que., battled a fire early Tuesday morning that quickly spread to a neighbouring home. A homeowner on rue Nobert, near rue Lafrance, called 9-1-1 just after 2 a.m. to report the flames, which had started on a balcony. Firefighters arrived quickly, but the flames had already spread to the attic and later to the house next door. Firefighters say they were able to save one of the houses, but the home where the fire originated was deemed a “total loss.” One person has been displaced. No one was reported hurt. It took nearly three-and-a-half hours to get the blaze under control, according to a release from Gatineau Fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
