REGINA - Saskatchewan New Democrats are concerned that Ottawa may not release all of the decades-old intelligence on socialist icon Tommy Douglas.

The federal government is relenting on its refusal to release documents on Douglas, who was a premier of Saskatchewan and then the federal NDP's first leader.

It's now promising to review the file and release additional material.

But Saskatchewan NDP Leader Dwain Lingenfelter (LING'-ehn-felt-ehr) says the government shouldn't censor any information on the man widely revered as the father of medicare.

Lingenfelter says the Douglas family wants the documents released and he adds that doing so will help Canadians' understand that period of history.

Some heavily censored pages already released show that RCMP security officers shadowed Douglas for more than three decades, but the government refused to release further information citing national security concerns.
