Ontario optometrists say they can ease ER strain, but outdated OHIP model blocks emergency care
Optometrists urge Ontario to update OHIP’s 35-year-old model, arguing they can safely divert 65% of ER eye cases. Public polls show strong support, but the eyecare professionals say they currently lose money holding emergency spots.
