Police say four people face multiple charges following a break-and-enter and assault at a residence in Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation on Manitoulin Island last week. Members of the UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police responded to the incident on Aug. 13. “Police received information that multiple individuals had attended the residence, forced entry and damaged the home,” the UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service said in a news release. Police said during the incident, an occupant of the residence was assaulted. The First Nation police service said officers attended the scene, ensured the safety of the occupants and immediately began an investigation. Emergency Medical Services also attended and assessed those involved. Multiple charges laid Following the investigation, four people were charged. A 23-year-old man from the Manitoulin District, a 42-year-old man from Burpee Mills, a 43-year-old man from the Manitoulin District and a 35-year-old woman from Burpee Mills were each charged with assault with a weapon, breaking and entering a dwelling house with intent to commit an indictable offence, and mischief. The woman faces an additional charge of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. All accused were held in custody pending bail hearings scheduled for Friday.
